Just throwing that out there so I don't get a bunch of recommendations to "take it to a smith." I am just a hobbiest, but a conservative one, and not a dumbass.

I've detail stripped most every gun I own at some point or another, tuned the actions of many, including many S&W revolvers, Ruger revolvers, shotguns, rifles of various types, auto pistols of various type, etc. Now, I'm no stranger to guns, or working on guns of all types. But the more I think about it I think I would prefer to have the whole thing Parked to match. The receiver is color case hardened and is in good shape so I was considering just leaving it alone and just doing the barrel. And the blasting and park will take care of the outside, and the bore is bright and spotless. The good news is that there isn't really any pitting on the outside, just some discoloration. So, it's been sanded or steel wooled down and all the original finish is gone from the barrel. It seems that at some point it had some rust that the PO decided to scrub off. This gun was perfect for my needs because, it was cheap enough, it's in pretty good shape, but needed the barrel refinished. One of the things I wanted it for was practicing my technique of doing a home Parkerizing job on it.
NEF BARREL MADE FROMSCRATCH INSTALL
 I had planned to buy a standard one and cut the barrel and install a new bead myself (another thing to practice doing) but this one was already cut down and was the cheapest one I'd found so far, so what the heck.īut anyway, I picked this one up, already cut down to 18 5/8" at a pawn shop for $80 OTD. The idea was for a short barreled version SS just to have as a simple little "SHTF" gun. It has no real purpose other than I just wanted one, and that I wanted to use a cheap little project gun to tinker around with and use to experiment for some future project ideas. I originally got the idea from a thread over on ARFCOM. I recently picked up a used NEF SB1 break action singe shot for a fun little project.
NEF BARREL MADE FROMSCRATCH PDF
I just can't see that.Įdited by Gander D.EDIT: The original post is below, but if you're looking for the instructions, scroll on down a few posts where I posted links to two pdf document with good instructions on breaking these guns down. I am saying I wouldn't want to invest the money unless it was going to raise the value of the gun.

I own alot of them myself and I agree they are of the most accurate rifles in my safe. I am by no means dis'n NEF or H&R rifles. Where as you were to custom build a rifle to this case say on a HOWA or 700 action then you would have something that most shooters would go nuts over owning and would pay BIG money if you ever wanted it.

That may or may not shoot as well as you expected then you are stuck with a gun that only you are interested in unless you stumble across a handloader that has 200 dollars in his pocket(we all know that don't happen) Besides that I respect him enough to listen to his experiences.Īnyway too my point, you put that extra 75-135 in a barrel for an NEF rifle and you still have a bargin gun thats now got twice as much invested in it. You get what you pay for when it comes to smith's and this guy is a bit pricey but I wouldn't put my guns in anyone elses hands. I am sure you can get that price by shopping around, but, it has been my experience.
